Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to wash my bike in the Bike Wash Australia machine?

Yes, the machine has been designed to be safe on all bikes – including high-end carbon fibre bikes. The machine uses warm water, medium pressure and a unique soap product to create the safest washing conditions.

Does the machine fit all types of bikes?

Yes, the machine fits all types of bikes from kids’ bikes – right through to full suspension enduro e-bikes. Our universal bike mount allows full adjustment to suit any type of bike and allows for mounting and washing on both sides of the bike.

How long does it take to wash a bike in the machine?

A wash cycle duration depends on the condition of the bike. However, we have found the average time to wash, rinse and dry the bike to be approx. 10 minutes.

How does the machine work?

The machine uses a magic combination of warm water, soap and medium pressure to safely and efficiently clean the bike from start to finish. The concentrated soap product is automatically dosed into the wash cycle to provide the most efficient and even use of soap on the bike. The blow dry cycle at the end of the cycle means the bike comes out of the machine ready to be serviced or ridden straight away. No more waiting for things to dry off.

Will it clean all bikes, even the ones that are filthy?

Most bikes will be washed and dried in the machine to a showroom level, without the use of any brushes or extra degreasers. There will be a small percentage of bikes that haven’t been shown the love they should, and they may need an external degreaser and light brush to assist in providing the best quality clean, particularly to the drivetrain – combined with the use of the machine.

What do I need to connect the machine in to my premises?

To install the machine, there are a couple of things that are required to allow for maximum performance. On the power side – a single phase 40 AMP circuit. For plumbing, 1 x cold water supply with a minimum pressure of 40 psi, and a 50 mm diameter waste outlet to your sewer point. Your local plumber and electrician can easily sort these out for you. We have all the technical documents required to provide to your trades.

Will the machine fit into my premises?

Yes, the machine will fit through a standard door opening in any premises. The machine dimensions are 2300 mm long x 800 mm deep x 1850 mm high. We have designed it this way to suit the varied environments the machines are installed.

How much does it cost to run a cycle in the machine?

The total cost to the owner in power, soap and water to run a cycle is less than $0.75c.

Where does the Waste water go? How does the filtration work?

The machine has a 2 stage filtration system in the wash tub to remove all solids and organic matter that comes off a dirty bike. We can also supply our solvent/oil separator system that is designed for the purpose of filtering out any products that are not approved to be sent into the sewer system- such as chemicals and solvents in the soap, along with grease and oil from the bike. The separator fits neatly underneath the machine and is easily plumbed into the waste removal plumbing. The filter is standard on the Otway Pro model. All waste water is plumbed into a sewer point for discharge once filtered.

How strong is the water pressure when washing? Is it safe?

The operating pressure of the machine is approx. 150 psi, using our unique V-Jet commercial quality wash gun. This is the sweet spot we have found for washing bikes and will not cause issues with bearing seals and other parts of all types of bikes, but provides enough pressure to effectively clean the bike. For comparison, a domestic pressure washer will produce around 1000 psi, which has been proven to be too powerful for sensitive parts of the bike.

Where can I buy soap products and spare parts from?

All soap products and spare parts can be purchased directly from Bike Wash Australia. We dispatch these products daily from our warehouse in Victoria.

Can I just use any soap product in the machine?

No, the soap dosing system on the machine is unique to Bike Wash Australia and not all products are approved to safely run through this system. The warranty on the machine will be void if an alternative product is used and causes issues with the unit. We are open to discussing the use of alternate products in the machine on a case by case basis.
